The St. Matthew Adult Dinner Group, or SMADG, is a long-time tradition which
gives parishioners an opportunity to socialize together outside of a church
setting. Dinners typically happen during the spring and summer months in the
homes of volunteer hosts. Many members enjoy this time to get to know one
another and to strengthen our church community.
On the fourth Saturday of every month, a group (everyone is welcome!) gathers
at St. Matthew at 6:45 am to have breakfast with Argyle Knight in Orting. Argyle
is a long-time member of St. Matthew - now living in a nursing home - and is
known for his sharp wit.
Pictured here is the breakfast group from a recent morning: From L to R,
Norbert Herriges, Argyle, Chuck Zimmerman, John Hibben, (with back to camera),
Bob Wright, and Howard Burd.

The annual Vestry/Parish Picnic (hosted by the Vestry) was held at the
Cuevas home in September after church services. A good crowd
turned out to feast on hamburgers, salads, desserts, and drinks. The weather
cooperated and was sunny after a foggy morning. Everybody had a great time.

St. Matthew holds an annual Golf Tournament for its parish players at all
levels. The original date, in April, was rained out this year and the
32 folks who were signed up to play were sorely disappointed. But with
cleats, clubs, and a keen desire to play, St. Matthew’s intrepid golfers
rescheduled their time on the links and finished out the tournament with
impressively high scores, much laughter, and a wonderful feeling of fellowship.

We Hiked To Paradise! Just the right destination for a church
group. Eighteen St. Matthew members and friends hiked the trails of Mt.
Rainier on a cloudy but rain-free September Saturday. With several trails
available, participants could choose a route suited to their own energy level
surrounded by hills and wildflowers. Trail Boss John Hibben looks forward
to more hiking with the group.
